I ordered on yesterday for my '10 SHO, I look forward to hearing my turbo's a little better!

I would also love to see if increased mpg is as much of a myth as I think it is.

Kinja'd!!!

I ordered here:

I paid $15 less than that yesterday.

Increased MPG has been proven as a myth for at least the first few weeks.

Because the increased sound and throttle response keeps you from worrying about MPG for that amount of time anyways lol.

I don't car if it's childish. Turbo noise for the win!

I admit to owning a couple though.

Haha yeah, I'm going not even going to look at it, haha. I do calculate every tank, so we'll see. I'm skeptical myself. I'm convinced I'd need a tune to eek out some more mpg's.

lol, no time to watch videos. But the main reason I got this is for turbo woooosh! Any other benefits are bonuses.

Yeah, we just put a CAI on my girlfriend's Focus and have gotten about 1-1.5 average MPG higher so far. We put it on about two weeks ago now. A tune isn't necessary. Since the car is MAF based it will automatically adjust the tune based on incoming MAF counts (aka amount of air).

A tune wouldn't help with MPG anyways, modern factory systems do too good of a job with efficiency in relations to gas mileage. Would definitely help with the power though!

Indeed. I've had my intake for a month and a half and every now and then I still play with it just to hear the noise.

Actually on my car a tune will help. I've heard several reports of 3-4+ mpg's gained on the highway. I'd be going from 365 Horsepower to ~440 Horsepower (at the crank).

I doubt tunes do much for N/A cars, but for a twin-turbo car like a Taurus SHO it certainly does.

I tune cars as a side job and have been for years, even factory Ecoboost cars and plenty of turbo cars. On a modern car a tune is not going to get 3-4mpg higher on normal driving. A tune doesn't even affect normal driving because the car is in closed loop meaning the ECU is monitoring the A/F ratio, compared to when you go WOT its in open loop and following the values that are set in the fuel table by the tune.

You can't tune for closed loop. Its self-sufficient. Therefor any MPG gains would be negligible or due to other factors 99% of the times. Now on some of the cars I've tuned I've heard people comment that the fuel mileage seem to have gone up because the car gets up to speed faster while giving it less throttle at the same time, like when getting onto the interstate/highway or something similar. But other than that I have never seen an improvement in MPG that was solely due to a tune.

Well. I keep detailed fuel logs and drive a pretty consistent route, so we'll see what happens when i get my tune.

This could be due to people upgrading to 93 octane and failing to mention it, as I hear that will give a significant improvement in MPG's, as well as about 10 horsepower.

So perhaps I'll have to start running 93 octane 3 or 4 fill ups before I get the tune.

Yeah, please do and let me know if you will. I haven't tuned an SHO yet, but I have had the honor of doing a Fusion just recently thanks to Livernois. So if I can get some hard facts or info on the increased MPGs maybe I can look into it some more from there.

Oh cool, how'd the Fusion respond to tuning? Was it a 1.6 or a 2.0? I haven't read much on the tuning of these yet. Although I did read about the Focus ST, so technically the Fusion should be capable of the same gains.

Yeah exactly. I must say I expected a little bit more. The factory tune really lacks in mid-range power, which is where a lot of the pickup was. The top-end is really limited as is some of the low-end due to the smaller turbo. But the feel is definitely there and it pulls solid for a 2.0 in a 4000lb car lol.

No dyno as of yet as he's wanting to do a few more mods first (just a CAI and exhaust I believe) and then we're suppose to have a full run of stock, stock with bolt-ons, tune, and tune with bolt-ons.

Ah very interesting. I just realized the Taurus now comes with that 2.0 as well, haha. Funny all the sizes of cars that engine is available in and every step up in car makes that engine just that much slower, lol.

I was really a tad disappointed with the numbers for the 2.0 fusion, I was expecting it to be faster. I'd love to know the improvement of 0-60 with a tune and those bolt on mods. Any talk of a downpipe?

Interesting, don't know of many regular Taurus buyers that would add bolt-ons, haha.

I haven't seen one manufactured for it yet. The forums were saying that it's even harder to get places to make stuff for the Fusion than it is for the Taurus or Explorer. I think there are a few companies that are working on it, just either waiting to see how much of a want there is for it, or waiting on R&D.

Yeah, I remember looking into getting a '10+ Fusion Sport/Lincoln MKZ, but the aftermarket for that looked kinda sad too. Then an SHO came along at the right price and I jumped on it.

Yeah it's really sad that the big places don't at least make the mods available for it. I mean how much money could it really cost Steeda or Livernois to modify the downpipe or any mod for the 2.0 ecoboost to fit every vehicle that uses it. The R&D costs drop substantially when the motor is the exact same in four different vehicles lol.

Haha yea. You could perhaps fairly reasonably have a high-flow cat welded in. Or in a state like MI, where I live you could simply remove or hollow out the cat. That should net significantly better flowing exhaust system. But I don't know how much the 2.0 would benefit from downpipe work. I just know the 3.5 really benefits a lot.

I think any stock turbo car would benefit from intake/exhaust mods. Without a tune it may not be as helpful, but it'll still make a difference. I've never looked at the downpipe on the SHO or Fusion closely, but if its anything like our Focus I'm sure its not the most efficient thing ever lol.

I know the aftermarket downpipes from Livernois for the SHO add significant power. I think it's the 2nd best upgrade you can do besides a tune (without going crazy with highly specialized parts). I'm considering getting them, but it is a big chunk of change, haha.

Sounds like Livernois has a downpipe in the works for the Fusion:
